The Depository Trust Company has launched its DTCC Tokenization Service, which creates tokenized representations of eligible securities held at DTC. The firm says eligible users can convert between traditional and tokenized forms and deliver entitlements to registered wallets.

DTCC says 20 DTC participants have signed access agreements, with further users to be onboarded over time. At launch, the service is integrated with Canton Network and DTCC's private Besu network; the company expects additional networks in 2027. A signed access agreement is not proof that every participant is already transacting.

For institutions, the significant question is how custody, wallet controls and operational processes connect across representations. The launch follows earlier limited production transactions, but the benefits and adoption of each use case depend on participating firms and their controls.
