Stripe expands stablecoin cards; country coverage needs a closer look
More issuing markets do not automatically mean every business can launch everywhere.

Stripe announced stablecoin card issuing in 27 EU countries, taking stated availability above 65 countries. Its October 16 update says card purchases convert stablecoin balances into local currency. A planned expansion to 100 countries by year-end is a target, not current coverage.
For a LATAM product team, a global total is only the start of diligence. The relevant route combines the company’s jurisdiction, the cardholder’s residence, the funding asset and the merchant transaction. A team should verify each part of that route before telling customers that a product is available. Merchant acceptance and eligibility to receive a card are different questions.
Our product assessment is that the strongest experience will make conversion, fees, refunds and failed payments understandable without requiring users to study the underlying payment stack. Start with a supported customer segment and test the full purchase and refund cycle. For Panama-based teams, the announcement is a reason to investigate specific eligibility, not evidence of local authorization or guaranteed access. Keep expansion plans separate from markets confirmed for the actual program.
